NHLML has been assigned to undertake works related to development of Ropeways and other innovative/alternative mobility solutions.

Ropeways is an attractive mode of transport in travel and tourism industry. It has emerged as a convenient, robust and safe transport mode over the last century and are ideal for last mile or inter-modal connectivity especially in hilly terrain. While ropeways have historically evolved in mountainous regions for connecting higher altitude regions, they are also emerging as transport solutions applicable for not only for higher altitudes but even urban transport.

Underlying factors driving ropeway infrastructure development are:

Last mile connectivity

Ropeway projects have a maximum capacity of 6000-8000 passengers per hour depending on the technology adopted.

Faster mode of transportation.

Ropeways can be built in a straight line over hilly terrain, thus compensating the slower speed (15-30 km per hour)

Economical mode of transportation

Despite higher cost of construction per km vis-à-vis road transport shorter length connecting origin and destination makes it more economical than roadways.

Proposed Project Facilities

Boarding & De-boarding, Administration Block, waiting lounge, Clock Room, Gondola parking space, Eating Joint, Drinking / Water Facility, Shops, Medical Facility, Car Parking Facility D.G. Room, Basic infrastructural facilities like sewage system, drinking water, medical facilities, electricity, telecommunication etc.

Ropeways in Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand is located in the foothills of the Himalayan mountain range. The presence of several hill stations, wildlife parks, pilgrimage places and trekking routes make Uttarakhand an attractive tourist destination. In 2019, domestic tourist arrivals in the state were 37.58 million, while foreign tourist arrivals crossed over 0.15 million.

The tourism sector is accepted as a growth driver for inclusive social economic progress through its forward and backward linkages and the ability to create employment in the economy.

For providing better connectivity in the state of Uttarakhand, seven locations have been taken up for feasibility studies

Ropeways in Nashik

  • Trimbakeshwar is one of the Jyotirling out of the twelve in the whole country. The historical sites Bramhagiri and Anjaneri have high tourist footfall but challenging terrains make it difficult for the tourists climbing the hills.
  • The distance between Bramhagiri and Anjaneri is about 5 Km.
  • The proposal for Ropeway development between the two sites is being examined.
